James Kelly landed a qualification mark on Sunday for the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships.
The Finn Valley AC shot putter reached out to 18.30 metres at the Donegal Championships.
The St Johnston man is following in the footsteps of his older brother, John, in the sport.
Next month, James will sit his Leaving Cert exams at the Royal and Prior and will be on the plane to the World Championships in July.
The Championships take place at the Ratina Stadium in Tampere, Finland from July 10-15.
