All the goals came in the second half as Longford Town U13s came from behind to defeat Finn Harps at The Moss.
Finn Harps 1 Longford Town 3
Harps – managed by Kevin McHugh (pictured) – had beaten Derry City in midweek, but Kevin McHugh’s team saw Longford take their number this afternoon.
Harps led through Aaron McLaughlin in the 47th minute as he got on the end of Tiernan McGinty’s pass. McLaughlin finished superbly to the top corner.
However, Longford were level just three minutes later as Alex Sheerin got on the end of Cillian Rochford’s cross to head powerfully past Killian Hagan.
Harps almost regained the lead, but Darragh O’Doherty and Shaun Patton had efforts charged down.
Longford led six minutes from the end as Sheerin slotted home after Harps, at several stages, failed to clear.
Soon after, Ryan Kelly’s long-range free evaded everyone, including Hagan, to put a gloss on the scoreline.
The game was scoreless at the break.
It had been a lively opening with Longford looking the most likely through Sheerin and Matthew Thornton.
It took a brilliant save by Hagan to deny Thornton after he was played in by Ribeiro Tica Jose on the half-hour mark in the best move of the half.
