Finn Harps’ relegation from Premier Division confirmed as Sligo defeat Derry

FINN HARPS TWO-YEAR stint in the SSE Airtiricity League Premier Division is over as Ollie Horgan’s side were relegated tonight.

Harps’ home fixture against Drogheda United was postponed last night due to a waterlogged pitch and that meant the Ballybofey club were reliant on Derry City winning at another side who were in the relegation mire, Sligo Rovers.

However, Sligo were 3-0 winners in miserable conditions at the Showgrounds tonight, with Rhys McCabe and Vinny Faherty scoring first half goals and Craig Roddan adding a third in the 90th minute – a result that means Harps cannot now finished outside of the bottom three.

Harps and Drogheda are now down, with Galway United currently third from bottom and need a win against Dundalk minimum and hope that Sligo lose to Drogheda and St Patrick’s Athletic to go down to Derry City on the road.

Harps will conclude their season with the rescheduled fixture against Drogheda United before visiting Bohemians on Friday night.

The Harps-Drogheda fixture has been rescheduled for Monday night at Finn Park at 8pm.

However, Maginn Park – which has played host to Derry City’s home games this season – has now been placed on standby after liaison with the Inishowen League, in the event that Finn Park doesn’t recover in time.
