Finn Harps and Derry City are to play a fund-raising friendly match in aid of the north-west flood victims.
Inishowen and large parts of Derry were badly affected last week by the freak flashing flooding that swept across the area on Tuesday evening.
Families were left homeless, businesses had to close and sports clubs woke to scenes of devastation, while roads and bridges were torn from their roots.
To date 47 families have registered with Donegal County Council as being displaced following the floods last week and this includes 21 families in Burnfoot, 14 in Buncrana and the remainder in Carndonagh, Muff, Clonmany and Malin.
On the ground, more than 60 families have been given financial aid since the torrential flooding struck many parts of Inishowen, while more than 300 parts of Inishowen’s 1,500km road network were damaged.
The north-west’s senior clubs, Harps and Derry, made representation to the Inishowen League over the weekend and on Friday-week, September 8, the clubs will play a fundraising friendly at Maginn Park, Buncrana (kick-off 7.45pm).
All funds raised will go towards victims of the recent flood disaster in the North West.
“The league would like to encourage all football fans in Inishowen to get behind both clubs and make this a successful event for a very worthy cause,” said Inishowen League PRO Terence Hegarty.
