Finn Harps captain Ciaran Coll ‘extremely unlikely’ to feature against Drogheda

Finn Harps captain Ciaran Coll seems set to miss Friday night’s First Division opener against Drogheda United at United Park.

Coll has been struggling with an ankle problem of late and the St Johnston man looks like losing his race against the clock for the game.

“Ciaran is extremely unlikely to take part,” Harps manager Ollie Horgan said.

“Ciaran has a problem with his ankle.  After he plays on it, he’s unable to put weight on it for a number of days.

“It’s a case where he needs rest. He hasn’t trained in two weeks and it’s unlikely he’ll feature.”

Horgan is already light on defensive cover and the absence of Coll would be a big blow, although Keith Cowan looks set to come in for a first start since he suffered a horror knee injury against St Patrick’s Athletic in October 2016.

Horgan has lost the likes of Damien McNulty and Kilian Cantwell over the winter months, but appears now to have a potent attack that will include the O’Connor brothers, Michael and Ciaran, John O’Flynn and Paddy McCourt.

The Harps boss said: “We have worked hard, myself and Paul Hegarty, to get what we have.

“There are certain players we’d like to have kept and others we’d like to have got in. It wasn’t for the want of trying, gathering the squad together.

“We weren’t fit in many journeys and phone calls to rectify that. Maybe, if we’re all in place come the transfer window in June we can rectify it then.”
