Finn Harps Under-19s throw away two-goal lead – but secure play-off spot

FINN HARPS UNDER-19s secured a top four spot and qualification to the play-offs despite letting a two-goal lead slip against Shelbourne at Finn Park.

Joe Boyle’s team were 2-0 up at half-time, but Shelbourne hit back with a pair of goals in the second half.

Harps hit the front after half-an-hour when Simon McGlynn steered home with a fine finish.

Harps had been kept level before then with goalkeeper Lee McCarron superbly saving a Shelbourne penalty.

On the stroke of half-time, Harps doubled the lead when Declan Sharkey fired past Matt Lyons in the Shelbourne goal.

Shelbourne came out determinded to get back in the game.

Talisman Dayle Roony caused the Harps defence a lot of problems and was instrumental as the Dublin side scored twice in second half to even the game.

Harps piled on the pressure in the last 15 minutes and hit the crossbar twice, with BJ Banda rattling the goal frame from 20 yards after being fed by McGlynn.
