MARK ENGLISH has finished in an excellent fourth place in the 800m of the Anniversary Games in London.

The Letterkenny native was part of a top class field in front of the packed Olympic Stadium in Stratford, running a season’s best of 1:45.49.

Botswana’s Nijel Amos was first home in a time of 1:44.57 to get the better of David Rudisha, the Olympic champion from Kenya, who clocked 1:44.67. Third place went to Adam Kszczot from Poland in 1:44.85, while English finished well to come fourth.

It was a fine performance from UCD student English, who finished in eighth place in the final of the recent European U23 Athletics Championships in Tallinn in a disappointing 1:50.42.
