FANAD UNITED YOUTHS continued their good start to the season with a fine 4-1 victory over local rivals Milford United at Traigh-a-Loch this evening.

Fanad United 4-1 Milford United

Both sides came into the game off the back of opening day victories with Fanad beating Letterkenny Rovers and Milford defeating defending champions Drumkeen United.

Fanad started the stronger and took the lead in the 11th minute when Louis Hanlon swung in a corner, Brad Patterson rose the highest to head into the net. This spurred Milford into life and they had a number of chances to equalise.

In the 21st minute some good work by Jonah Serrinha sent Kieran Connor through but his shot went wide. Two minutes later Daragh Greene spurned the best chance when his shot crashed off the post. Michael Devine gave Milford a sign of what was to come in the 29th minute when his free kick from 25 yards flew just wide. Another free kick from Devine a minute later was well held by Josh Pond.

Milford started the 2nd half the stronger and put Fanad under a lot of pressure. Five minutes after the break only a fine block from Ryan Taylor denied Daragh Greene. From the resulting corner Ryan Flood headed just over.

In the 55th minute Dane Dunsworth produced a fine save at his near post from a Jonah Serrinha shot. Fanad made Milford pay for not taking their chances in the 57th minute. When Sean Little was fouled 25 yards out, Michael Devine stepped up to hammer home an unstoppable free kick.

The next 20 minutes was end to end without any clear cut chances. Fanad stretched their lead in the 77th minute when Bernard McGettigan evaded a number of challenges down the right and his ball into the box was met by Louis Hanlon who finished. Milford to their credit struck back immediately when Daragh Greene broke through and finished beyond Dunsworth. Greene and Serrinha then missed good chances for Milford while Sean Little seen a good shot deflected wide for Fanad.
