Letterkenny Rovers u16s pulled off a famous win in the SFAI National Cup to book a semi-final  spot.

Rovers scored a fully merited 2-0 win and took a huge scalp when defeating top League of Ireland side Bohemians in Coolock this afternoon.

Rovers have had a glorious run through the competition and  this win followed up equally impressive victories against Tramore and Mullingar Athletic in the National stages for the reigning Ulster Area winners.

Rovers started the better and were awarded a penalty on 4 minutes when lively winger Adam Yisau was upended by Callum Brady but Jack Dwyer missed the resultant penalty.

That set the tone for the first half as Rovers dominated for long periods of play and fathomed a couple of good chances before eventually taking the lead on 14 minutes when Nathan Plumbs low centre was finished by Tobi Akinyimika who made it 5 goals in 3 games in the national stages for the big frontman.

The game was then delayed for a spell with the horrible weather forcing the referee to take the teams off for a temporary break and when proceedings restarted it was Bohs who capitalised and went close through Andy Margine and Callum Sterlo but on both occasions found Rovers keepr Jonathan Pearson in defiant mood when making two good saves.

Rovers though may have lost momentum ddue to the tempoorary break but soon got back in their stride and maybe should have been further ahead at the break only to find opposing netminder Troy O’Brien in equally defiant mood when denying Akinyimika, Plumb and Yisau.

Rovers started the second half well also and defended well but the importance of the 2nd goal was crucial and it came on 68 minutes when Dwyer atoned for his earlier penalty miss when just as in the previous game agaisnt Mullingar rose highest to power home a well delivered James Lenty Gallagher corner kick.

Rovers had chances to add to their  advantage but managed the game out well  for a famous scalp which will live long in the annals for the quite significant travelling support.

Rovers will be away in the semi-finals when travelling to either Salthill or Villa FC.
