Extra time win propels Kildrum Tigers into Johnny Irvine Cup final

KILDRUM TIGERS BOOKED their place in the final of the Johnny Irvine Under-12 Cup thanks to a 3-0 win over Ballymoor at Station Road Park yesterday evening.

The Tigers needed extra time to overcome a stubborn Ballymoor, but a brace of goals by Corey McBride-Gillen and another by James Kernan fired the St Johnston side into the final.

Ballymoor were strong in defence and made it hard for the young Tigers, who were thankful to a goal-line block by Shane McDermott in the first half to keep the sheet clean.

McBride-Gillen broke the deadlock early in extra time and he slammed home a superb second goal before the finishing touch came courtesy of a cracker by Kernan late in the game.

The Tigers are managed by Shane Porter and Russell Porter and competed in the Galway Cup this summer.

They now go on to play Trojans in the final.

“We found it hard to break them down, but once we went 1-0 up they had no answer and it was a great team performance,” Shane Porter said.

CJ Clarke, Adam Callaghan and McBride-Gillen were the star performers for the Tigers.

Kildrum Tigers: Declan Dolan, Shane McDermott, Aaron O’Donnell, Shane Coylem Adam Callaghan, CJ Clarke, Shane Monaghan, Anton Murtagh, James Kernan, Corey McBride-Gillen (Jack McCarron), Auryn Coyle (Caolan Crossan).
