Everton manager Martinez says Coleman injury is not ‘as bad as we feared’

ROBERTO MARTINEZ IS confident that a hamstring injury picked up by Seamus Coleman on Saturday isn’t as bad as initially feared – but is awaiting scan results to confirm the prognosis.

Killybegs native Coleman (pictured above by Stephen Doherty) was forced off with 12 minutes to go in Everton’s 3-1 win over Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday and that news would’ve made Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill sweat ahead of October’s Euro 2016 qualifying double-header against Germany and Poland.

“We have had a really good 48-hour period,” said Everton manager Martinez. “For Seamus in particular it has been a really good reaction.

“But obviously we will get a lot more information from the scans. I don’t think it looks as bad as we feared but we’ll get more information as the week goes on.”
