TWO LEADING Donegal GAA officials failed in their bid to have eight-week suspensions quashed in the latest part of the appeals process.
Donegal County Secretary Aideen Gillen and Donegal Hearings Committee member Dan Hartnett had a hearing last Thursday night with the Central Hearings Committee at Croke Park.
The officials had been allowed to continue to operate in their posts while the appeals process was ongoing, but the suspensions kicked in following the hearing. The Donegal County Chairman, Mick McGrath, accompanied the officers to the hearing.
Donegal GAA officials are remaining tight-lipped on the matter.
Ms Gillen and Mr Hartnett would be entitled to lodge further appeals to the Central Appeals Committee, while cases could go as far as the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA).
The two officers are understood to have sent letters of support on behalf of a club mentor, who sought a reduction to a 12-month suspension, handed down for playing an overage player in a game.
They were charged with sending those letters without having received the prior approval of the Donegal County Committee.
Mr Hartnett, a member of the Letterkenny Gaels club, is understood not to be pursuing the matter further, but Ms Gillen is said to be ‘considering her options’ and could lodge an appeal.
