Eddie Dsane was a surprise name on the Finn Harps team sheet on the opening night of the season – but the Londoner wants to make the most of his chance at Finn Park.
Dsane was an eleventh hour signing that was kept under wraps by Ollie Horgan until the squad for the game against Cork City was announced, around an hour before kick-off.
Dsane spent the latter half of last season at Longford Town and impressed Horgan, who wasted little time in making a call once the season ended.
“I was hoping to get something in England again, but that didn’t happen and Ollie was back on again,” Dsane – who impressed as a substitute in Friday’s 3-2 loss to Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght – said.
“I was flattered that another manager was so keen on me. Ollie was onto me as soon as the season ended really.
“I could see the direction the team was going in. It was an easy decision actually.”
Dsane gave Harps a real injection of energy on Friday night, after being introduced for the hamstrung Danny Morrissey,.
He said: “I just wanted to contribute. That’s all I’ve been trying to do. It’s frustrating not to start so I just have to show what I can do when I do get on.
“I’m hoping to get in from the start soon.”
Dsane looked lively and made things happen for Harps, who came from two-nil down to equalise through Caolan McAleer and Paddy McCourt, only for Simon Madden to snatch a win for Rovers in the final minute.
Dsane said: “It was very disappointing. If we had played better in the first half it could have been different, but we played well in the second.
“We didn’t perform well enough in the first half to say that we deserved to win.
“We were a different team in the second half. We were braver and were more direct. It showed with two goals.”
Dsane, who hails from Croydon in south London, started his career on the books of Preston North End before moving to Fleetwood Town.
Last summer, he shipped up at Longford and is bidding to earn a regular berth at Harps.
Dsane could be in from the start on Monday night when Harps take on Cockhill Celtic in the EA Sports Cup.
He said: “We can take positives from the second half. We scored two goals and nearly got something out of it. We have to take those positives into Monday and hopefully get through to the next round.”
Harps had been unbeaten in four games until Friday night’s agonising loss to Rovers, but Dsane has seen enough to be confident of surviving in the top flight.
He said: “We can stay up and even push for mid-table. We have a lot of quality. To go to Tallaght and nearly win shows the quality that’s here. We don’t fear any team. We can hold our own against anyone.”
