DUNGLOE OVERCAME A young Glenswilly side comfortably in this evening’s County Under-21A Championship preliminary round at Pairc Naomh Columba.

Goals from Barry Curran and Luke Neely means the side from Rosses Park will now take on Ardara in the first round proper this coming Wednesday.

In the beginning, there was little in it. After 22 minutes, it was Dungloe who held a slender one-point lead of 0-4 to 0-3.

Ryan Greene’s two frees were added to by Luke and Adam Neely for Dungloe, while the home team saw a Caoimhin Marley braced added to by Ciaran Gibbons.

However, a 27th minute Dungloe goal was the first significant momentum switcher. Curran smashed high past Cian Randles in the Glenswilly goal after a fine move. Dungloe netminder Danny Rodgers had started it with a kick0out to David McCarron and he played the ball onto Ryan Greene, whose strong run and pass set up Curran to score.

When Marley for Glenswilly and Adam Neely of Dungloe traded scores late in the half it meant that the away side were 1-5 to 0-4 in front at the break.

Glenswilly would’ve wanted a swift response after the interval but a goal for Dungloe in just 15 seconds made it a seven-point game with Luke Neely shooting low past Randles after breaking from midfield.

That goal was part of a Dungloe surge that would see them score 1-4 in succession to kick on to 2-9 to 0-5 in front with Sean Wallace, McCarron, Greene and Luke Neely posting points.

Oisin Crawford scored Glenswilly’s only point of the second half as Curran and Wallace rounded off a convincing win for Dungloe.
