Duffy says Dundalk must put Rovers defeat out of system at Finn Park

MICHAEL Duffy has demanded that Dundalk put last week’s defeat to Shamrock Rovers behind them ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Finn Harps.

Dundalk lost 3-2 in a pulsating clash against Rovers in Tallaght on Friday, but the Lilywhites will look to get back to winning ways on Friday night against Ollie Horgan’s Harps.

“We need to get it out of our system,” Duffy said.

“We have had a good week at training following it, everyone has been in good spirits and we are ready to kick on.

“It was disappointing to lose last week against Shamrock Rovers, we felt we should have got something out of the game and disappointed with the way it went in the end.”

Duffy, who played his schoolboy football at Kildrum Tigers, has been in flying form for Dundalk and has even been mentioned as a possible Republic of Ireland international.

Duffy is pleased overall with the start that the Lilywhites have had in 2020 and pointed to the fact that there will be many dropped points over the course of the campaign.

he said: “We have had a good start to the season, a better start than we have had in previous years so that is a plus but we want to just get back to winning ways tomorrow night.

“The league is so competitive this year and you can see it already with teams taking points off each other that there will be different results each week.

“We know that and we are ready for that but we want to get back winning, we want to put last week behind us and move on.”

Duffy is anticipating a test in Ballybofey. While Harps have a poor recent record against Dundalk, they did draw 1-1 with the Oriel Park residents last year at Finn Park.

Duffy said: “We have always had a difficult game away to Finn Harps. They have had a good start themselves and as I say they have had a few good results, taking points off others.

“They are a good squad and are always tough to play against, it was early in the season last year when we went there and it was 1-1 so we know it won’t be easy.

“We are looking forward to the game though and ready for the challenge. Hopefully we can get the win that we are looking for and take it into next week.”

Sean Murray and Patrick McEleney are out injury, but Darragh Leahy could return from an ankle injury.

McEleney’s absence, due to an achilles ailment, means he won’t go up against his brother, Shane, who has started each of Harps’ opening three games.
