Tuesday was a busy and exciting evening at the Finn Valley Centre for the Donegal Fastest Child finals.

There was a large crowd in unseasonably excellent weather for a fun event supported by schools from as distant as Killybegs, Clonmany, Belcruit Acres and Loughanure.

The project is driven each year by a group of coaches from Finn Valley AC and Athletics Ireland Development Officer Dermot McGranaghan as part of an annual programme of Fastest Child, Sportshall, Track/Field and cross country that more and more schools are engaging with.

Each child received a memento on check in and then it was time for the action on a well prepared track, outdoors on this occasion as, due to weather, it’s normally held indoors

The Fastest are under-10 girls – Niamh Doogan of Loughanure and Arianna Beales of Dooish both on 4.50 followed by Ellen Temple (Lurgybrack) and Sarah Margey (Naomh Brid Muff), Grace Mc Bride (Naomh Brid Convoy) and Lucy Campbell (Glenswilly),

Under-10 boys, fastest was Brendan Ndambira (Scoil Colmcille, Letterkenny) with David Alamus (Colmcille) in secnd followed by Odhran Ryan (Gaelscoil Leitir Ceanainn), Hamish Corrigan (Holy Trinity) and Tadgh Gallagher (Holy Trinity).

Unde-12 Girls winner was Saoirse Alleyne (Educate Together) with Emma Friel (Magherenagh), Emily Kelly (Sessiaghoneill), Jamie McGinley (Ballylast), Sarah O’Donnell (Clonmany), Casey Hegarty (St Mary’s (Stranorlar) in that order
