DRUMKEEN UNITED REMAIN top of the Donegal Youth League after recording their third victory in a row on Saturday.

Drumkeen traveled to Gweedore and came away with all three points in a 4-2 victory over Gweedore Celtic.

Bonagee United drew for the third time this season, they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Illistrin United and, in the other game played on Saturday, Swilly Rovers recorded their first win of the season when they defeated Keadue Rovers 3-0 at Swilly Park.

There are no games in the youth league next weekend due to the FAI Schools Boys Under-18 Interprovincial Tournament in Dublin.

A BRIGHT start from the home side as they created a few openings with Mark Wilson going close on eight minutes.

The opening goal came in the 27th minute when Derek Edwards played a fantastic diagonal ball to Shaun Crossan who controlled well and cut the ball back to Mark Wilson for the most simple of finishes making it 1-0 to the home side. Wilson was unlucky not to double his tally when he rounded the keeper but his shot hit the post.

In the 33rd minute, it was roles reversed when Wilson did well to pull the ball back from the byline to Crossan who rifled into the far corner for a good finish.

The away side battled gamely and were unlucky when Malachi Boyle shot inches over.

The second half started with Keadue pushing forward without creating any chances. Swilly could have scored a few more with Stephen Gallagher hitting the crossbar.

The game was closed off on 81 minutes when Oran Higgins (pictured above, courtesy of Stephen Doherty) played a lovely weighted pass to Stephen Gallagher who was taken down by the Keadue ‘keeper.

Higgins stepped up to score from the penalty spot to give the home side their first win in three matches.

A good battling display by Keadue Rovers. Best for Swilly Rovers were Oran Higgins, Derek Edwards with Shaun Crossan outstanding.

Referee: Joe McHugh
