Illistrin FC and Lagan Harps continue to lead the way in the Terry Leyden Under-14 League after convincing wins on Wednesday night.

Illistrin FC  2  Finn Valley  0

Illistrin FC (above) continued their good form in the league with a hard fought victory over a very young but energetic Finn Valley team.

Indeed both teams were missing some key players but both teams played out a very entertaining game.

The home team enjoyed the lions share of possession but found Finn Valley keeper Caoimhe Brennan in top form.  She produced some early saves early on to keep Illistrin players Alisha Tobin, Maria Kealy, and Rebekah Mc Glinchey in particular at bay.

Illistrin did break the deadlock in the 12th minute when the ball broke to the edge of the box to Aislinn Coll and she delightfully guided the ball to the back of the need with great composure.

Maria Kealy almost doubled the lead but was unlucky as her effort came back of the post.

Finn Valley battled throughout and Abigail Temple was dangerous on the break.

The second half was similar to the first with the home team dominating possession but Finn Valley always were dangerous on the break.

The introduction of U12 players Erika Gallagher and Nicole McDaid added some energy to the Illistrin attack.

It was McDaid who got the vital second goal when Rebekah McGlinchey found her in space and the young winger finished superbly.

For the home team Aibhe McDaid, Marie Rushe, and Aislinn Coll had great games but player of the match goes to Finn Valley keeper Caoimhe Brennan who pulled off some marvelous saves throughout the game and was very brave as she guarded her goal.

Lagan 4-0 Raphoe Town

A very eventually contested game with only one goal scored in first half – when Jessica Leese received a great ball by Rihanna Devenney, Jessica beat the defender and slotted the ball into the corner of the net with just five minutes to go to half time.

Raphoe had chances in first half with Alannah Key working hard in midfield to the advancing Shania McMonagle, but Lagan defenders Natalie McDevitt and Clodagh Sweeney dealt with the pressure.

After an exciting first half, the second half was just as entertaining.

Gaby O’Donnell made a great run down the left before Rocha McCullagh made a great block to send ball out for corner. A great delivery by Lucy Canning was headed by Jessica Leese into the net.

Minutes later Leese got her hat trick when Niamh Monaghan set the ball to Jessica on the edge of the box, and her shot went in off the post.

Clodagh Sweeney had a great shot just over.

Raphoe, to their credit, kept pressing forward and Cora McBride had a good shot saved by Courtney Gallagher in the Lagan net.

Courtney was called into action again when Ellie McBride free kick was tipped over.

Maria Boner sealed the victory for Lagan with the shot high into the net.  Good team performance by Lagan with Abbie McKnight and Ellie McBride doing well for Raphoe.

Mulroy Academy 1 Swilly Rovers 0

Mulroy continue their winning streak with a win in Rabs parkon Wednesday evening.
Both team were slow to start with Mulroy unable to finish numerous crosses from Lisa Dougra. The left wing back, Hannah O’Carroll, made Mulroy’s job all that harder and Maria McGee put in a super performance in midfield to take possesion everytime.
The second half started with Mulroy showing a bit more fight. Lisa put in a crucial cross and was put in the back of the net by Megan McLoughlin. Mulroy had taken the chance they need and put the home side one up.
Orla Connelly was superb in nets for Swilly. Her kickouts were powerful and precise.
Swilly battled hard and a few breaks nearly saw them with glory.
Meabh Duffy had a few scary moments but in the her usual form nothing shakes her.
Dearbhla Mc Devitt once again kept her defence line solid and kept Swilly at arms length.
For the home team Maria McGee, Dearbhla McDevitt and Lisa Dougera had a great games.
Away Team great performance from Heather McLaughlin and Hannah O’Carroll but player of the match goes to Swilly keeper Orla Connolly who pulled of some super saves.
