A HOST OF FEMALE boxers from Donegal take to the canvas of the National Stadium this weekend as the Girl 1-6 Championships get underway.

Illies Golden Gloves’ Chloe McDaid and Jessica Clarke of Carndonagh ABC won Ulster titles in the ring last Sunday in Buncrana and are among the big crowd of punchers from Donegal aiming to make a mark.

McDaid has a quick-fire repeat of her Ulster final tomorrow when she faces Rathfirland’s Morgan McNulty.

Last weekend, McDaid took a unanimous decision and will look for a similar display in the capital this weekend.

Clarke, who has already won one Irish title, could meet her Ulster final foe, but Clarke’s semi-final isn’t scheduled until next weekend.

Having beaten Aine Tanney of Carrickmore in Ulster 9 Counties and Ulster Championship finals already this year, Clarke awaits the winner of the preliminary bout between Tanney and Kasey Holohan, which is on this weekend.

Finn Valley’s rising ace Leah Gallen faces Oluwa Damse (Ryston) in a Girl 3 contest at 52kgs tonight while Carndonagh and Twin Towns are well represented.

At Girl 2, Kathleen Martin of Carndonagh meets Aaligah Butler (Monivea) at 42kgs, Shania McClosey from Carndonagh takes on Crumlin’s Shelby Myers at 44kgs and Twin Towns’ Molly Catterson is up against Sloabh Luachra’s Katelyn Horan in a 48kgs contest.

In a Girl 5 46kgs fight, Ciara Craig from Dunfanaghy faces Chelsea Touhey of Clara.

In a preliminary bout in the Girl 1 44kgs division, Carndonagh’s Clodagh McGonagle faces Kaci Crowley (Erne) tomorrow, with three Donegal boxers in finals later in the day.

Clarke is straight into a semi-final that will be held next weekend and her sister, Labhaoise, will aim for her eighth Irish crown on Saturday-week when she faces Ava Doyle (Ryston) in the Girl 6 57kgs final.

Twin Towns’ Aine Gallagher will meet Fiona O’Keege from Rathkeale in the Girl 3 39kgs final with Kristina McFadden (Dunfanaghy) in action in a semi-final, meeting Lauren Sinclair (Ryston) in the Girl 6 66kgs semi.
