ZOE McGlynn, Sarah Jane McDonald and Nicole Gordon featured as the Republic of Ireland Under-19 Women’s team drew 1-1 against Scotland in Tulla, County Clare, this morning.

Raphoe woman McGlynn – who plays for Sion Swifts – was involved heavily and set up the Irish goal having been included in the starting line-up by Dave Connell, the manager, while Greencastle FC pair McDonald and Gordon came on as substitutes.

Scotland took the lead when Erin Cuthbert found the net with a free-kick which flew into the top corner of Nadine Maher’s goal.

The Scots suffered a blow in the 29th minute when they had Courtney Whyte sent off after McGlynn (pictured above) was fouled as she burst through on goal.

Jamie Finn had a header narrowly over from a McGlynn corner in the 33rd minute before Ireland levelled when McCarthy headed to the Scottish net in the 35th minute following another McGlynn corner kick.

Late in the game, McDonald played in Rachel Kearns but the Irish attacker could not take advantage of the opportunity.

The Irish continue their preparations for the forthcoming UEFA WU19 Championships qualifying round with a friendly against Northern Ireland at the AUL Complex on Wednesday, August 26 (5pm).

Connell hailed the influence of the Donegal contingent in an interview with Donegal Sport Hub this week.
