Donegal likely to appeal Paddy Hannigan red card

DONEGAL ARE EXPECTED to appeal the sending of Paddy Hannigan in yesterday’s Allianz Hurling League Division 2B game against Armagh.

Donegal were beaten 2-14 to 1-8 at O’Donnell Park on a day when they finished with 13 men after centre-back Joe Boyle was given a second yellow card.

Eight minutes into the second half, Donegal full-forward Hannigan and Armagh full-back Adam Toal were shown straight red cards by referee Colum Cunning after clashing off the ball.

Both counties have indicated that will appeal the decisions.

“You’d have to question the decisions,” said Donegal manager Ardal McDermott.

“There was a bit of control lost out there.

“Paddy’s was just a bit of handbags in a melee. I think the referee just picked two targets. We’ll definitely be appealing the decisions.”

McDermott felt that the referee erred in handing Boyle his second booking.

The Donegal manager said: “It was a question of: ‘Did he get the right man for the booking?’ It’s hard enough without things like that going against you.”

Donegal are next in action on March 6 when they face Meath in Trim.
