Voodoo Venue Saturday League Cup

Erne Wanderers Reserves 2-4 Strand Rovers

Erne started strong and took a 1-0 lead from the spot when Captain Packie Hill converted after Daniel Warnock was fouled in the box.

Wanderers doubled their lead soon after with Hill again finding the back of the net from a Nicky Sheerin corner.

A mix up at the back before half time saw Brendan Glackin pull one back for Rovers.

Strand applied plenty of pressure, pushing for an equaliser, but couldn’t find an opening.

Within minutes Strand equalised, At 2-2 Hill and Fannon’s departures were followed by Corey McDermott limping off after a great game at centre back.

A lack of experience and the loss of their two centre backs to injury at a crucial stage of the game saw Wanderers concede two late goals.

Donegal Town Reserves 3-3 Keadue Rovers Reserves

( Donegal Town won 4-3 on Penalties )

This was a game of two halves played in perfect conditions at the Hospital Field, Donegal Town.

Keadue Rovers Reserves looked as if they had run away with it going in at the half time whistle 3-0 leaders with David Sweeney, Daniel Bonner and Damien Hanlon the scorers.

Donegal took the initiative from the start of the second half and, following the introduction of striker David Graham, they dominated the remainder of the game.

Graham scored himself a hat-trick to level the sides at the end of the game.

Extra time followed the 90 minutes and ended scoreless with both sets of players out on their legs after a very competitive 110 minutes of football.

Kevin McCafferty was the hero for Donegal during the shootout, saving two penalties and ensuring Donegal progress to the next round of the Voodoo Venue Cup.

Orchard FC 3-3 Cappry Rovers Reserves

( Cappry Rovers won 2-4 on Penalties )

A young and determined Cappry Rovers Reserves progressed to the next round of the Cup after defeating an under-strength Orchard on penalties.

Cappry started brightly and took the lead after 10 minutes when MP finished from close range following a cross from the right.

Orchard got back on level terms when great play from Vinnie McLaughlin on the right set up Gio Peoples to score from five yards out. Orchard took the lead on 65 minutes when Niall Bonner played a fine ball over the top for Charlie Creevy to run through and finish over the ‘keeper with the help of a slight deflection.

Orchard had a chance to wrap the game up when McLaughlin played Bonner through on the keeper but his lob came agonisingly back off the crossbar.

Orchard were left to rue that missed opportunity as Cappry scored an equaliser with one minute to go through a Luke O’ arrell free kick.

Orchard got off to a great start in extra time when Gerry Roulston’s free-kick was met at the back post by Sean Sweeney for a fine goal.

With five minutes to go it looked like Orchard were to prevail but O’Farrell had other ideas when he got his second with an acrobatic volley from just inside the box.

Cappry had some very impressive young players on show supported by the experience of Leo Gallagher and Dougie McFeeley.

BRIAN MCCORMICK CUP AREA SEMI-FINALS

Kilmacrennan Celtic 3-1 Lagan Harps

The first half was uneventful with few chances for either side but Lagan went in to advantage when Kevin Kelly found himself one on one with Kilmac ‘keeper Jason Hegarty to put Lagan ahead on 43 minutes.

Kilmac came out fighting in the second half and their efforts were rewarded in the 71st minute when Daire McDaid delivered the ball into the box from a corner and found Kieran Gorman who made no mistake to equalise.

Kilmac came out on top just three minutes later when Decky O’Donnell’s throw in resulted in John Sandilands finding the back of the net.

Both teams had a few shots after this but the keepers stood up to the challenge.

Kilmacrennan put the game to bed in the 92nd minute after good play from Christy Conaghan, Timmy Burke and Decky O’Donnell lead to super sub Daire McDaid putting the Lurgy men three-one up.

Kilmacrennan are now through to the area final where they will play Milford, who were 6-2 winners against Whitestrand United.

St Catherine’s 10-0 Eany Celtic

SHANE O’Rourke netted a hat-trick as Cup holders St Catherine’s swatted aside Eany Celtic.

Ryan McCluskey and Andrew Mackey each scored twice with Ryan Farrell, Paul McFadden and Ryan Ward on target.

Erne Wanderers 0-2 Cappry Rovers

The visitors settled well early on and fizzed the ball about but Erne were holding them at bay.

Erne struggled to make an impression at the top end of the pitch and Cappry were comfortable at the back.

The breakthrough came on thirty five minutes when a mistake from the Erne backline allowed Darren O’Leary to finish well from the edge of the box.

The second half was better for Erne in terms of possession but no real cutting edge allowed Rovers to be comfortable.

With 12 minutes left on the clock Cappry were awarded a penalty and O’Leary tucked it away well for his second of the match.

Wanderers kept going till the death but Cappry sat in and seen the game out. Best for Erne were Peter Boyle and David Dorrian while Cappry were solid throughout.

Gweedore Celtic 1-1 Glenea United

( Glenea United won 5-6 on Penalties )

Thomas Diver gave the home side the lead in this match between two of the League’s longest established sides. It took until the 91st minute for Sean Coll to equalise.

The conditions were poor as they were around the County and it took the dreaded shoot-out to separate the sides with Celtic advancing to meet Gweedore United in the Area Final.

Gweedore United 4-0 Keadue Rovers

This game played at Carrickboyle saw the home side advance to the final of the Area Shield with a good solid performance throughout against a youthful Keadue team.

The first half saw the home side start quite strong with good chances falling to Gary McFadden, Ciaran McFadden and Liam McMullin.

Keadue had good chances through Daniel Bonner, but Liam McFadden in the United nets did well on each occasion.

The breakthrough came in the 36th minute when McMullin headed to the top corner following an excellent delivery from Paul Duggan.

In the second half United got off to a good start and went two up when Ciaran McFadden hit a great volley to the top corner following a good cross from Jamie McGee.

Two minutes later the home side extended their lead with Ciaran McFadden again finishing past Chris McGonigle following good work from McMullin.

United got their fourth in the 73rd minute when Padraig McFadden finished well following a good build up.

Convoy Arsenal 1-3 Castlefin Celtic

Convoy had a great chance to take the lead in the third minute when Johnny Robb got through a few challenges only to see his shot roll narrowly wide.

It was a case of what could have been for Convoy when Castlefin went straight up the pitch to score, Paddy Dooher the man putting the finishing touch to a good Castlefin move.

Castlefin had a good bit of pressure for the remainder of the half without creating any clear cut chances.

Despite this Convoy always looked dangerous on the counter attack and we’re unlucky not to equalise when Eunan Kelly broke through only for the keeper to save and the rebound to be blocked on the line.

The second half started at the same tempo as the first and Castlefin’s pressure paid off with two goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half.

Damien McAnnaney headed home after a scramble in the Convoy box for Castlefin’s second goal and JP Malley finished from a tight angle for their third.

Convoy tried to fight back and after a few half chances were awarded a penalty after an Anthony Bogle shot was handled in the box. Johnny Robb put the penalty away to give Convoy a lifeline in the 80th minute.

 Lifford Celtic 1-2 Raphoe Town

Raphoe reached the Area Final with a 2-1 victory in the Greenbrae. The first half ended scoreless with both sides creating many chances.

Lifford went in front on the hour mark as Paul Martin scored following a corner. Raphoe replied with two quick fire goals from Emmet Kelly and ex-Lifford forward Jay Mc Brearty. Raphoe went on to miss a penalty as Lee White saved on 80minutes.
