Donegal ladies continue impressive League form in Meath

DONEGAL’S LADIES CONTINUED their fine start to their League campaign with a ten-point win over Meath.

Meath 3-08 Donegal 3-18

Kate Byrne’s early goal for Meath gave the Royals the advantage and when Meath struck a second goal, through Ailbhe McHugh, Michael Naughton’s team were five in arrears with just 12 minutes on the clock.

Yvonne McMonagle had an effort trickle across the goal-line before the danger was averted and Donegal arrested the slide with McMonagle leveling the match, after points from Geraldine McLaughlin and Karen Guthrie.

McMonagle fired hom the first Donegal goal, but Vikkie Wall netted Meath’s third major late in the half.

It was Donegal who led, 1-12 to 3-3, at half-time as Niamh Hegarty sailed over in added time after Guthrie, McMonagle and Hegarty posted earlier points.

Two minutes into the second halfm Roisin Friel netted Donegal’s second goal and a third arrived soon after as Eilish Ward took full advantage of poor marking by the home side.

Gráinne Houson, Bláthnaid McLaughlin, Geraldine McLaughlin, Guthrie and McMonagle all got on the scoresheet as Donegal pulled away.
