SHAUNA MCFADDEN and Amanda Gallagher will be the first of the competitors of Donegal interest taking part in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi.

McFadden (pictured above) and Gallagher, from Letterkenny and Dunlewey respectively, are in the girls’ time trial, which begins at 8am (Irish time) on Tuesday.

Sommer Lecky, the Castlederg, Co Tyrone, native is on a member of Finn Valley Athletic Club and will start her campaign in the women’s high jump on Tuesday with the final due to take place on Thursday in the Georgian capital.

Also in action on Tuesday are two of Lecky’s clubmates. Arlene Crossan from Letterkenny is competing in the long jump and Glenfin’s Aaron McGlynn is in action in the 800m heats. Brendan O’Donnell from Lifford Athletic Club is also competing, in his case in the hammer throw on Friday.

Competition continues until Saturday.
