A 13-strong Donegal boxing team will head for the Lansdowne Hotel in Belfast on Saturday for an inter-county tournament against a County Antrim select.

Boxers from eight Donegal clubs will take to the canvas with Twin Towns, Convoy, Carndonagh, Dunree, Dunfanaghy, Clonmany, Raphoe and Letterkenny all represented on the day.

Letterpenny’s triple Irish champion Paddy McShane (above) leads the Donegal charge.

McShane goes against Oisin Mulholland from East Down in a contest matched at 42kgs. McShane has Senior Cadet, Junior Cadet and Boy 3 Irish crowns from his past and Saturday’s is a repeat of the 2017 Senior Cadet decider.

In that bout, McShane took a 4-1 decision at the National Stadium to defeat Mulholland.

Raphoe’s former Irish Colleges finalist Dennis Lafferty will be another to spur the Donegal contingent. The Ballindrait man faces up to Conor Kerr of Glengormley. Last year, Lafferty was an Ulster Senior finalist, losing out to Conor Quinn in the bantamweight final.

Dunfanaghy’s former Irish Boy 1 kingpin Bernie McDonagh squares up to Tony Hanna from Townland at 42kgs.

Boxing gets underway at 1pm with entry £3.

Boy 1 35kgs Sean Hillock (Ardoyne) v Thomas McMenamin (Twin Towns)
