NEWLY-CROWNED IRISH Junior Cadet champion Paddy McShane leads the charge at the Hull Box Cup this weekend.

The Ulster Boxing team left Belfast today with Letterkenny ABC’s McShane joined in the squad by fellow Donegal punchers Chloe McDaid (Illies), Leah Gallen (Finn Valley), Ciara Craig (Dunfanaghy) and Jessica Clarke (Carndonagh ABC).

McShane last weekend won the 36kgs title at the National Junior Cadet finals at when he defeated Odhrán McInerney in the final, having previously won the Irish Boy 3 title in April.

In May, McDaid won the Irish Girl 3 50kgs crown when she defeated Sinainn Glynn from Cloghan, County Offaly.

Gallen is a rising star from the Finn Valley stable. In 2015, she was the Irish Girl 2 champion at 52kgs when she overcame Zoe McGone (Emerald ABC). Gallen is a highly-rated boxer who has been on the rise for some time now.

Craig goes on the back of having reached the semi-finals of the National Girls Championships, losing narrowly to Monkstown’s Saoirse Kearns at Girl 5 46kgs.

Clarke, meanwhile, is a two-time Irish champion, the most recent of her wins last month when she showed her worth with a tricky win over Jessica Connolly from Ballaghaderreen.

Illies Golden Gloves’ Eamon Duffy and Dunfanaghy’s Eddie Harkin have traveled with the squad as coaches.
