Division One of All County League matches up some big clashes this weekend

The all county league fixtures return to the pitches of Donegal this weekend and there are plenty of mouth-watering match-ups in store.

Division one features the clash of the titans between St Eunan’s and Kilcar. The home side will welcome the Towney men to O’Donnell Park hoping to be the first side to defeat them this year.

Kilcar have only dropped points once in the league and that was in a 0-15 to 0-15 draw with Milford. Their much anticipated top of the table clash with Gaoth Dobhair was meant to take place last week but was called off due to issues surrounding the pitch.

Luckily it appears that both sides of the party seemed to have settled on the issue.

Gaoth Dobhair will welcome close rivals St Michael’s to Magheragallon this weekend and will hope to repeat the victory they earned over their rivals a few weeks back. The home side will of course be missing their county men for the weekend but that too will hurt St Michael’s who will be without Michael Langan and Mark Anthony McGinley.

Nothing other than a fierce battle will be expected in this one as the pair have been among the best teams in the county for the past decade.

Dungloe match off with Aodh Ruadh in the battle of the two bottom sides. Aodh Ruadh won the reverse fixture in Fr Tierney Park with seven points to spare. They will be hoping for a similar outcome this weekend to try and escape the relegation battle.

On the other hand Dungloe have yet to register any points in their first seven league games. A big turnaround is needed in the next few weeks, but they have been historically a tough team to beat when they’re at home. With the soccer season now finished too it’s likely that they will have a larger squad to pick from.

The clash between newly promoted Cloughaneely and Naomh Conaill sees fifth face fourth. Cloughaneely fought hard to get a point earlier on in the season against Naomh Conaill and they are yet to lose a game at home this year.

Naomh Conaill however haven’t lost since the opening day defeat to Kilcar. The Glenties side have been in good form of late and will have taken confidence from winning the county Gaeltacht title in recent weeks. It’s expected Pairc Naomh Fionan will attract a large crowd for this one on Sunday.

Milford face Glenswilly at the weekend and it too is set up to be a tight encounter. Glenswilly go into the game minus talisman Michael Murphy whereas Milford don’t have a county player at their disposal, giving them a slight advantage in fixtures like these.

Milford beat Glenswilly earlier this year by a margin of 1-14 to 0-09 away from home. Those were a vital two points for the side who won the Intermediate county title last year and they will be hoping for a similar result this weekend.

Glenswilly haven’t been on a great run of form in recent weeks but one would need to be very foolish to write them off. They are without a win in their last three league fixtures but may look at this fixture as an opportunity to get back on track.

All fixtures are set for Sunday, with throw-in scheduled for 3 o’clock.
