RED HUGHS maintained their good form in the AllSportStore.Com All-County Football League Division 4 yesterday evening, while Naomh Padraig Lifford and Robert Emmets also chalked up wins.

Red Hughs overcame derby rivals St Mary’s, Convoy 0-21 to 0-9 at Pairc Naomh Mhuire.

Red Hughs lost on the opening day of the season against Moville, but have now won three-in-a-row to sit top of the pile, their intent focussed on a swift return to Division 3 having been relegated last season.

Convoy were well in touch at half-time when they trailed by just four points, 0-8 to 0-4.

Anthony Browne (3) and Laurence McMullan hit the points for the home side, with Browne ending the night with seven points. Simon McGlynn was the other man on the mark for Convoy.

A purple patch in the second half by Seosamh Mac Ceallabhuí’s Red Hughs sealed the win for them.

Red Hughs had nine different scorers on the night. Damien Browne and Marty Bonner hit five apiece with Calvin Bradley and Colm Melaugh each hitting three points.

With Gerard Melaugh, James Carlin, Odhrán Doherty, Patrick McMenamin and David Gallen all scoring, it was a comfortable win in the end as Red Hughs pulled away in the second half.

Robert Emmets picked up their first win of the season, with a narrow 1-8 to 1-7. home win over Naomh Padraig, Muff.

Muff led 1-4 to 0-5 at the break with Damian Diver’s 25th minute goal the key. Diver landed all of the Naomh Padraig scored on the night, his seven points all coming from frees.

John Hunter and Johnny McLaughlin both scored three points for Robert Emmets, who stayed in touch.

But it looked beyond then when Diver pushed Muff three ahead with just over 15 minutes to go.

Robert Emmets upped the ante, though, and hit the next four scores, including a goal by Gary McNulty.

Diver’s frees made a real game of it late on, but John Penrose’s men held on to claim a first win of 2016 after a couple of near misses.

Naomh Padraig, Lifford surged away after a bad start to defeat Pettigo 3-17 to 0-11.

Home side Pettigo started superbly and raced into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead by the 15th minute with Paul Robinson and Paul Murphy among the scorers.

Cianan Doherty’s goal edged the Lifford men in front and they held a 1-7 to 0-7 lead at half-time.

Paul Lynch and Jack Mahon netted goals in the second half, while seven points from Darren Gillespie and four by Kevin McBrearty helped Lifford’s score tick along nicely.

With points by Seamus Breslin, Lorny Crossan, Conor Mulhern and Jordan Nelson, it ended up a routine win after a slow start for Naomh Padraig.

Pettigo also had points from Marty Hilley, Johnny McManus, Dylan McGrath and Darren Johnston, but had no answer as Naomh Padraig marched towards the win.
