Disappointment for Dunleavy but O’Donnell over the moon with FAI Cup win

DUNDALK COMPLETED THE league and cup double this afternoon with a 1-0 win over Cork City after extra-time in the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup final.

A 107th minute goal from Richie Towell – his 29th of the season – proved to be the only goal of the game at the Aviva Stadium.

Stephen Kenny, who lives in Fahan, saw his side add the cup to the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title.

Dundalk were captained by Stephen O’Donnell (pictured above courtesy of Dundalk FC), a Galway native whose father PJ is from Chapel Road in Dungloe. Cork were skippered by Johnny Dunleavy from Ballybofey/

Dunleavy’s grandfather, the late Frank Dunleavy, and O’Donnell’s grandmother Mary O’Donnell (nee Ward) were first cousins.
