DESSIE KELLY TONIGHT stepped down from his position of registrar of the Ulster Senior League tonight, thus ending a long association with the league.

Kelly had indicated last year when he was re-elected as registrar that 2015/16 would be his last term in office.

Down the years Kelly has held a multitude of positions in relation to soccer, including being the current chairman of Letterkenny Rovers and Secretary/Ulster Rep to FAI Junior Council.

Tonight Jason Gibson – the former Swilly Rovers manager – was elected as Kelly’s successor.

“I wish to thank all the clubs, their secretaries and team managers for their co-operation and their use of the registered post, which made my job a lot easier,” read a statement from Kelly that was read by Mark Duffy, the assistant secretary, at tonight’s Ulster Senior League AGM in the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny.

“I made it known at the last AGM that this was my final year as registrar so the time has come for me to say goodbye to the Ulster Senior League. I thoroughly enjoyed working in the league in several positions and learned along the way.

“Since coming into the league many years ago I served with a variety of executive members and delegates and those people are the heart of all that is good with the Ulster Senior League.

“I wish them many more years promoting the game of Association Football and going forward I wish them every success for the future and hopefully the retention of intermediate football will be retained. For the incoming registrar, I wish him my best wishes and if I can be of any assistance to him I am only a phone call away.”
