Delight for McFadden as St Eunan’s make winning return to MacRory Cup

In the lead-up to the MacRory Cup campaign, Colm McFadden outlined a wish for his St Eunan’s Colle side to be in the competition after Christmas – and a winning start today against Patrician High, Carrickmacross keeps those hopes alive.

St Eunan’s College are back in the MacRory after a number of years out of the competition, but a 2-8 to 2-5 win today saw them make a perfect return.

Conor O’Donnell netted a brace of first half penalties for the Sentry Hill students, who had conceded two goals in the first 12 minutes.

“We were happy to go in at half-time ahead considering we conceded the two early goals,” McFadden said.

“They responded to the goals and they stuck to doing the right things. That was the most important thing and the result is a bonus.

“It was great to get the win. We knew it would be a tough battle. We had a sucker punch with the two goals in the first half, but they dug deep and kept playing.

“It was nip and tuck in the second half and they kept the discipline in the second half too.”

St Eunan’s are back in action when they face St Patrick’s College, Armagh on November 14.

McFadden added: “They’ll be a formidable side. They had a big win against Bessbrook. It’ll be a tougher challenge, but we’ll look forward to it.”
