Deep sadness at passing of Raymond Blake

A deep sadness hangs over Letterkenny today following the passing of one of its best-known characters Raymond Blake.

Raymond, of Main Street, passed away at the Donegal Hospice overnight after a short illness. He was aged 56.

Raymond touched the lives of so many people through the family’s business Blake’s Bar.

He was also heavily involved in St Eunan’s GAA Club for many years as a player and a coach.

A former nurse, Raymond spent some time working in England but spent his later life working in the family business alongside his late dad Harry.

There are many words which could describe Raymond Blake and many people will have their own personal memories of him.

He had great general knowledge which included a vast knowledge of sport.

But he also possessed a cutting wit as well as a genuine listening ear from his view of life from behind his bar counter.

But there was so much more to Raymond as no doubt will be shared by the vast amount of people who will recall the goodness he brought with him in his relatively short time with us.

Raymond is survived by his brothers Joe, Kevin, David and sister Ita and a wide circle of relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his father Harry and mother Maire.

Funeral arrangements will be released shortly.
