Declan Bonner joins St Michael’s backroom team ahead of Championship quarter-final

DECLAN BONNER will aid St Michael’s Donegal SFC bid after joining the Creeslough-Dunfanaghy club’s backroom team.

Bonner, who was last night ratified as the new Donegal Under-21 manager, took charge of training at The Bridge last week and will do likewise tonight as St Michael’s gear up for Sunday’s quarter-final against Malin at O’Donnell Park.

St Michael’s won all three of games in Group 3.

After defeating Cloughaneely and Four Masters by ten points, they were to the pin of their collar against Glenfin in the final game, but they won 2-07 to 1-08.

Eddie Harkin is back as manager of St Michael’s this year having taken the reigns from Tony Wilkinson.

St Michael’s were beaten semi-finalists last year while they reached the final in 2011 when they lost to Glenswilly.

Bonner, who has had spells as a club manager with Gaoth Dobhair – whom he led to the Dr Maguire Cup in 2006 – Dungloe and Na Rossa, had previously been linked to the manager’s job at St Michael’s, but nothing materialised.

Now, though, he’s a member of Harkin’s backroom team.

St Michael’s have questions marks over the fitness of Donegal star Colm McFadden ahead of the Malin game after the forward sustained an ankle injury in Sunday’s win over Dungloe 1-10 to 0-09.
