Death of former Gaoth Dobhair football star Antoin Rodgers

TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of former Gaoth Dobhair football star Antoin Rodgers.

A winner of eight Donegal senior football championships between 1944 and 1955, Rodgers passed away in Lurgan, County Armagh on Wednesday.

Antoin worked as a dentist in Lurgan, where he has lived since the 1960s.

He played Championship football for Donegal between 1950 and 1952.

He is survived by his wide, the former SDLP leader, Senator and MLA Bríd Rodgers.

Predeceased by his sister Caitlin, Antoin is also survived by daughters Mary, Anne and Bríd, sons Séamus, Tom and Antoin and brother John.

Antoin’s remains will be brought to be interred in his native Gaoth Dobhair.

Requiem Mass can be viewed on Friday, January 15th, at 10am in St Patrick’s & St. Ronan’s Church, Magheralin via YouTube. Burial will take place in Magheraghallon cemetery.
