TWIN TOWNS LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT Paul Darby became the latest Donegal boxer to book his place in the finals of the Ulster Intermediate Championships last night.

Darby overcame Daniel O’Hagan from Omagh in the first of the light-middle semis, the Twin Towns man taking a majotity 2-1 decision.

Darby had beaten Raphoe ABC’s Danny Duggan in his opening bout at the Championships and he followed it up by defeating O’Hagan last night at the Dockworkers Club in Belfast.

Darby will meet Gerard French from Clonard in Friday night’s final. French defeated Jonathan Smith from Dungloe in the second of the semi-finals at light-middle.

There was disappointment last night for Letterkenny ABC’s Oran Shields, who was beaten 3-0 by Patrick Doherty from St Joseph’s in a middleweight semi-final.

Following Darby’s semi-final win, eight Donegal boxers will now line up on Friday’s finals.

Two of the finals will be all-Donegal bouts.

Ten-time Irish champion Michael Gallagher from Finn Valley will take on Letterkenny ABC’s Michael McConigley in the heavyweight decider while the welterweight final sees Finn Valley’s Orin McDermott face off with Mark McCole from Dungloe.

Ballindrait man Dennis Lafferty, representing Raphoe ABC, goes against Eamonn McNally from St Michael’s in the featherweight final.

Davit Tsotsoria from Letterkenny meets Tony Campbell (Immaculata) at cruiserweight and Austeja Auciute (Finn Valley) is back in action when she faces Rochesters’ woman Suzanne Kennedy in the women’s light-welterweight decider.
