Dale Gorman on target, but Stevenage let two-goal lead slip

Dale Gorman netted a penalty for Stevenage on the opening day of the new League Two season this afternoon.

The Letterkenny man converted from the spot in the 62nd minute as Stevenage drew 3-3 with Newport County at the Lamex Stadium.

After Frank Nouble cancelled out Tom Pett’s opener for Stevange, Gorman stepped up to net in the 62nd minute.

Stevenage looked to have the win wrapped up when Danny Newton made it 3-1.

But Newport pulled a goal back through Mickey Demetriou and Shawn McCoulsky bagged a last-gasp equaliser, four minutes into added time.

Ramelton man Conrad Logan made his debut for Mansfield Town in a 2-2 away draw at Crewe Alexandra.

Mansfield twice came from behind. Chris Porter netted Crewe’s two goals, but Danny Roe and David Mirfin secured a share of the spoils for Logan and Mansfield.

Meanwhile, Stephen McLaughlin came on as a late substitute for Southend United in their 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in League One.

Goals by Ryan Leonard and Michael Kightly gave Southend the win.

McLaughlin recently signed a new deal at Roots Hall.
