Curtis confidence soaring after double strike for Portsmouth

RONAN Curtis says he’s brimming with confidence after netting a brace for Portsmouth yesterday.

The St Johnston man netted twice as a 4-1 win over Crewe at Fratton Park moved Pompey into fourth in League One.

It has been a busy spell for Curtis, who just returned from international duty with the Republic of Ireland in time for yesterday’s game.

Curtis featured at Wembley in a friendly with England and on Wednesday he started the Nations League draw with Bulgaria.

“I’m feeling good and the confidence is higher after going away on international duty and getting some game time,” Curtis said.

“It was unbelievable to be back at Wembley again, although this time with no fans. Hopefully they’ll be back as soon as possible.”

Curtis netted twice in the first half yesterday for Kenny Jackett’s Portsmouth and the 24-year-old is purring.

Yesterday’s double takes him onto eight goals already this season.

He said: “We’ve got great attacking players – and a really strong team overall – and we all work hard on our finishing.

“It was a great afternoon. We knew what we had to do against a really good side and it was always going to be hard.

“Crewe are a possession team and we had to get them on the counter-attack, which was really effective for us.

“It’s something we’re always trying to get right during training and it’s helped us to get another league victory.

“So now we need to keep doing what we’ve done in recent weeks and then see where we are at the end of the season.”
