Conor McBrearty hits 2-5 as Letterkenny Gaels beat Naomh Colmcille

LETTERKENNY GAELS GOT their first All-County Football League Division 3 win as they overcame neighbours Naomh Colmcille at Pairc na nGael today.

Gaels full-forward Conor McBrearty, scoring 2-5, was a constant threat to the visitors. His decoy run in the third minute opened up the centre for Sean Mc Donagh to race through and rattle the Naomh Colmcille net.

Joe Donaghy, for the visitors, and McBrearty shared scores before McDonagh again came through for another excellent score.
Naomh Colmcille responded well with scores from Donaghy (2) Daniel Clarke and William Lynch before a McBrearty free and a long range score from Ciaran Lynch gave the home team a two point advantage.

Oran Hilley reduced the deficit for the visitors before McBrearty again shook off three defenders before pointing. McBrearty and Paul Friel exchanged scores to leave it 1-6 to 0-7 at half-time.
The introduction of Naomh Colmcille’s Ryan McArlene had an immediate effect in the second half as Willie Gillespie netted from the throw in. The home side responded with two well taken goals from McBrearty to go five up.
The visitors never gave up and responded with scores from Michael Lynch, Gillespie, Clarke, McArlene and Donaghy to level the scores.
McBrearty then converted a long range point in the final minute and in injury time, win a ball out the field drew three defenders before passing to midfielder Liam Doherty who dispatched neatly passed Gary McDaid in the Naomh Colmcille net. Next up for Gaels is an away trip to Aodh Rua while Naomh Colmcille will be anxious to get their first win when they entertain Naomh Brid. Both games fixed for Sunday, April 10.
