Fanad United maintained an unbeaten start to the North West Women’s Super League season as they overcame Greencastle at Chapel Lane.

Greencastle will wonder how they failed to get anything from this match.

Greencastle had early chances from Kate McClenaghan and Ellen but they found the Fanad keeper in fine form.

Kathy McLaughlin put Greencastle in front in the 20th minute after being slipped through by Fiona Mc Laughlin.

The home side were well on top at this stage but failed to convert some great chances mainly due to fine keeping from Fanad’s Roisin Mc Ginley.

Just before half-time Kate McClenaghan eventually got an effort past McGinley but her sweet right foot shot from just inside the left side of the penalty area come back off the inside right hand post.

The second half started as the first half ended with McGinley keeping Greencastle out and the woodwork denying a fine Kathy McLaughlin header.

Fanad midfielder Lisa Friel was the player that kept her team going forward and with 20 minutes left she forced a hotly-disputed corner from which Keri Sweeney scored a powerful header.

Greencastle were really rattled 10 minutes later when Fanad were awarded a penalty, which was converted by Niamh McDevitt.

Greencastle tried hard to recover but just couldn’t get a finish on the chances created.
