Coleman eyeing Europe and urges Everton to spend big

Seamus Coleman says Everton wants to ‘keep building’ and hopes for a big-spending summer after a superb 2-0 win at West Ham United on Saturday.

Coleman was purring after the Toffees defeated West Ham with Kurt Zouma and Bernard on target.

“We want finish strongly and keep aiming for that seventh place,” the Killybegs man said.

“If we did get into Europe, I think that would change the plans for the manager and the owner.

“You might need a few more players because it is quite demanding.

“It would be massive. At the start of the season we knew breaking into the top six would be difficult but we wanted to get that seventh place.

“Everton should be in Europe every season. We’ve finally got the financial backing that maybe we’ve been missing for quite a period of time.”

“The result against Chelsea (a 2-0 win) gave us confidence and I think a lot of the lads played brilliantly.

“To get 2-0 up at half-time, it was important we held onto it. We did that and now we want to keep building.

“We wanted to be focussed and that’s what we did, and we kept the ball well. I think everyone put in a shift and now we need to keep going like this.”

After Zouma headed home the opener, Coleman had a big part to play in the second Everton goal, laying on the assist for Bernard to convert.

Coleman said: “He made a great run and I thought his goal topped off his performance.

“Bombing on is something both me and Lucas (Digne) like to do from full-back and there was some good link-up play with our wingers.

“It’s about making it count and I thought we did that.”
