Coláiste Ailigh scored six goals to claim victory in this afternoon’s Ulster Ladies U20 Post Primary Schools final.

Coláiste Ailigh 6-8 Thornhill College 2-7

Shannon Ní Chuinneagáin led the way, scoring 2-4, including a penalty early in the second half to gun down Thornhill College at the Melvin Sports Complex in Strabane.

Laoise Ní Riain also bagged a brace of goals, with Aoife Ní Chearáin and Áine Ni Fhlannagáin also hitting goals.

Ten minutes into the second half, it was close enough when Aoife Collins fired home for Thornill, to make it 3-4 to 1-4, with Ní Chuinneagáin drilling home a penalty after she had been fouled.

However, Ní Riain’s second goal, on 45 minutes, made it 4-4 to 1-4.

After Leah McGonagle goaled for the Derry school, Ni Fhlannagáin – who was named player of the match – netted ten minutes from time before a wonderful solo effort by Ní Chuinneagáin registered the sixth Coláiste Ailigh goal.

Coláiste Ailigh got off to a dream start and were 2-3 to 0-1 up by the mid-way point of the first half.

They burst from the blocks with a goal from Ní Riain after just two minutes.

And on 12 minutes they bagged a second goal as Ní Chearáin found the net.

Points from Ní Chuinneagáin and Ní Chearáin had the Coláiste Ailigh girls eight points up.

Catherine McGuigan, the Thornhill goalkeeper, did well to repel a stinging attempt by Ní Chuinneagáin as Coláiste Ailigh turned the screw in search of a third.

At the break, they led 2-3 to 0-3 and they rammed home their dominance with four majors in the second half.
