Cloughaneely prove much too strong for Sean MacCumhaills

Cloughaneely had too much for Sean MacCumhaills at Páirc Naomh Fionnan on Sunday afternoon.

Cloughaneely 0-17, Sean Mac Cumhaills 1-6

Cloughaneely came out on top in what was eventually a one-sided game.

Denis Boyle, top scorer for Cloughaneely on the day with a total of 7 points, scored his first free of the day in the fourth minute.

Darren O’Leary responded for MacCumhaills in the 6th minute.

MacCumhaills were held scoreless for a period of 10 minutes while Cloughaneely went ahead by three points with scores from Paul Sweeney, Denis Boyle (free) and Ciaran McFadden.

MacCumhaills’ Gavin Gallagher was handed a black card in the 15th minute and was replaced by Ronan McMenamin; however MacCumhaills continued strongly with a point from Stephen Mulligan, which was shortly followed by a goal from Mulligan in the 23rd minute.

MacCumhaills were dealt a further blow in the 24th minute when Gary Dunnion was red carded for a foul on Denis Boyle.

The home team managed to add further points from Boyle and Mark Harley to keep them ahead by 2 points at the half time whistle, 0-7 to 1-2.

With MacCumhaills reduced to 14 men for the second half it turned into a one-sided affair.

MacCumhaills were held scoreless for much of the second half while Cloughaneely saw an array of scorers add to the score-line.

Kevin Mulhern opened the second half scoring with a point two minutes in.

Sweeney, Mulhern, Ciaran McGeady, Aidan Doohan, Jason McGee and Boyle all added further points.

O’Leary managed to secure MacCumhaills’ first second half score with a free in the 51st minute and quickly followed this with a point from play.

Gary Wilson added a further point, but Cloughaneely substitute John McGarvey made his contribution with a point in the 58th which was quickly cancelled out by an O’Leary free.

Two further points from Cloughaneely top scorer Boyle in the closing minutes, finished off the game.
