THE Parish League for u-9’s and U-11’s will begin this Friday at 6pm. It will run for approximately 5-6 weeks. The U-9 category is for children born in 2006/2007/2008 and the U-11 for children born in 2004/2005. We’d encourage as many of the kids as possible to attend.

Under-13 girls
Well done to our Under-13 girls who had a good win over Dungloe  at the weekend. Their next game is away to Gweedore on Thursday evening at 6:30pm.

D’imir Cloich Cheannfhaola Ard a’ Rátha i nGleann Súilí Dé Domhnaigh i gcluiche dícháilithe na craoibhe sinsirí. Bhí Ard a’ Rátha in uachtar sa chéad leath agus bhí Cloich Cheannfhaola naoi bpointe chun deiridh. Ach throid Cloich Cheannfhaola go fíochmhar sa dara leath agus fuair said an cúl comhscóir leis an chic dheireannach den chluiche – saorchic ó Sheán Mac Gairbheith. Ba é 0-13|2-07 an scór deiridh agus lá eile gan choinne ag Cloich Cheannfhaola.

Cloughaneely faced Ardara in the Senior Championship relegation play off, in Glenswilly on Sunday last. Cloughaneely made an astounding come back from being 9 points down to earn a draw with the last kick of the game.

Ardara were undoubtedly the dominant force for the majority of the game; they quickly rattled off four unanswered points before Cloughaneely’s Eugene McGuire managed to get Cloughaneely onto the scoreboard with a point in the 14th minute. Ardara, undeterred, were ruthless in response and blasted over a further six points before Cloughaneely’s Shaun McGarvey finally registered Cloughaneely’s second point from a free. Cloughaneely managed to marginally close the gap before half time with a further two points from Eugene McGuire and Darren Ferry, leaving the score 0-10|0-04 at half time.

Cloughaneely had all the work to do coming into the second half. Ardara were again first off the blocks adding another two points to their tally before Cloughaneely substitute Declan McGarvey registered Cloughaneely’s first point of the second half at 41 mins. Although Ardara remained dominant in possession for long periods, they will be bitterly disappointed in their finishing and had too many missed opportunities.

Cloughaneely’s momentum began to build and a long ball in from Shaun McGarvey found it’s way to substitute Paul Sweeney who managed to fist the ball past the Ardara keeper; a massive morale boost for Cloughaneely, bringing them within four points of their opponents with 15 minutes remaining.

Paul Sweeney again came to the fore, and quickly had another 2 points added to his personal tally bringing it to a two-point game.

Ardara, unsettled by the shift in momentum, only managed to add one extra point, their first in 20 mins, to again stretch the lead out to 3 points going into the dying minutes.

With the final seconds counting down, Cloughaneely were awarded a 21-metre free, which Shaun McGarvey stepped up to take.

Faced with an army of Ardara men manning the goal line, McGarvey strategically blasted the ball which flew under the crossbar for a goal, bringing the score all square at full time! Final Score 2-07, 0-13.

There are no club games for Cloughaneely this weekend.

Cash for Clobber
Cloughaneely ran a very successful cash for clobber clothes collection in the Falcarragh area at the end of June. We are now organising a collection to cover the Gortahork area. We will be doing a bag drop around the Gortahork area on Monday evening, September 21st.

We would greatly need the help of as many volunteers as possible to help drop of bags at each house; so if you can spare an hour or 2 please come to the club house at 6pm on Monday, September 21st – drivers also needed!

Any unwanted clothes, bedding, curtains, shoes etc you would like to donate can be put into these bags and left out for collection. We will be returning to collect the bags the following Monday, September 28th starting at 6pm, so please ensure your bags are outside by this time and visible to our collectors.

We hope to have the collection completed by 8:30pm. Many thanks to everyone who has donated clothing already; your support in fundraising for the club is much appreciated.
