CLOUGHANEELY WON THEIR second fixture on the bounce in the AllSportStore.com All-County Football League this afternoon – but they left it late.

Cloughaneely 1-10 MacCumhaill’s 1-8

Darren Ferry, who was Cloughaneely’s top scorer on the day, cleanly slotting over four frees, made up Cloughaneely’s entire first half tally.

Martin O’Reilly, who was MacCumhaill’s top scorer, also notched  four first half frees. The first score from play was a point from MacCumhaill’s Darren O’Leary in the 27th minute.

In the dying minute of the half Gary Wilson neatly intercepted a Cloughaneely ball; which was quickly off-loaded to Gavin Reilly who rounded the Cloughaneely keeper to find the back of the net; leaving MacCumhaills with a comfortable four-point margin at the break, 1-5 to 0-4 in front.

Cloughaneely were much more dominant in possession in the second half, with the MacCumhaills men having difficulty keeping Kevin Mulhern at bay.

Cloughaneely’s opening point from play came from John McGarvey in the 33rd minute. O’Reilly responded shortly after with his fifth converted free. Cloughaneely continued to knock points of the margin difference with some well worked points from Martin Maguire, Darren Ferry and Cian McFadden.

In an attempt to maintain their lead the trio of Nathan Gavigan, Martin O’Reilly and Gavin Reilly collaborated to knock over another MacCumhaills point in the 43rd minute minute, leaving a two-point difference and all to play for in the final 15 minutes.

Cloughaneely’s Ferry, who produced a fine performance on the day, got the home side to within one point of the visitors.

MacCumhaill’s extended the lead back to two points in the 57th minute with an excellent long range point from Darren O’Leary.

Cloughaneely continued to drive on and worked the ball back up the pitch where a spectacular piece of play from Maguire and Lee O’Brien allowed Mark Harley to guide the ball into the back of the MacCumhaill’s net to send Cloughaneely into a one-point lead in the dying minutes.

An Darren Ferry point in added time secured the victory for the home side.
