CLOUGHANEELY Golf Club beat a strong Letterkenny side to win the 2020 Donegal Junior Matchplay title.

Two years of hard work paid off last Sunday at the newly redesigned Narin Portnoo Links when Cloughaneeely claimed their first ever Junior Scratch Matchplay title.

Cloughaneely lost in the 2019 final narrowly to Murvagh and were determined to go one better this year – and they did.

Cloughaneely Golf Club’s top man Mark McGinley won on the 18th hole in a very close match with a solid par par finish to secure the first match.

Cian McGarvey had a great win 3&1 to secure the second match.

Paul Doherty produced some excellent golf to win 4&3.

This meant that Cloughaneely needed one more match to secure victory and the coveted title. Dean Gallagher had a super back 9 and was three up with three to play.

Dean sealed the victory with a solid par on the index 1 par four 16th hole to win 4&2 to the delight of his team mates and supporters.

Well done to Team Captain Seaìn Oì Gallchoìir, and all the Panel – Mark McGinley, Cian McGarvey, Seán Ó Gallchóir, David Hone, Paul Doherty, Dean Gallagher, Hugo Cannon and Denis Boyle.

Tá éacht iontach déanta ag an fhoireann seo le Craobh an Chontae a bhaint.

Bíonn na clubanna móra uilig sa chontae sa chomórtas aitheanta seo agus is bua ollmhór é dúinne mar chumann an corn a thabhairt ar ais go Baile Chonaill agus go Cloich Cheann Fhaola.

Maith sibh agus comhghairdeas.
