CLOUGHANEELY LEFT MOUNTCHARLES with their third win in a row with in Division 2 of the AllSportStore.com All-County Football League, against St Naul’s.

St Naul’s 0-11 Cloughaneely 1-14

The score difference on Saturday could have been much more given the near goal chances Cloughaneely missed out on during the course of the game. St Naul’s got off to a strong start having scored three points in quick succession.

Darren McGeever got the visitors on to the score board in the eighth minute. Cloughaneely found themselves 0-4 to 0-1 down by the 12th minute with Stephen Griffin on form for the home side but John McGarvey and Darren Ferry stepped up to help close the margin adding a point each to the Cloughaneely tally.

A couple of well worked manoeuvres initiated by Shaun McGuire saw Martin Maguire and Darren Ferry slot over two more much needed points before the half time whistle, with the visitors then 0-7 to 0-6 up.

With little between the teams at half time; it was all to play for in the second half. Cloughaneely were first off the mark in second half with another free from McGeever.

But this was immediately cancelled with a converted free from Naul’s, from Griffin, who the hosts were too reliant on up front. Only Stephen Conneely, Barry Rose and Daniel Brennan joined him on the scoresheet.

The game continued on this tit for tat basis until the final 10 mins when a Ciaran McFadden goal for Cloughaneely in the 52nd minute was the turning point of the game, leaving the score 1-10 to 0-9.
