OISIN O’FLAHERTY’S BRACE, either side of a Philip McGuinness goal in the second half, shot promoted Dunree United into the Credit Union Cup semi-finals at the expense of Premier Division Greencastle.

The home side paid the price for failing to convert their chances in the first half when they were so dominant.

Greencastle began well with Jamie McCormick twice off target in the opening minutes before Matthew Henry shot over after collecting a Sean Cavanagh lay off.

Dunree spurned the best chance of the game on 11 minutes when Kevin McColgan released Philip McGuinness and he beat his man before crossing to Oisin O’Flaherty, but he headed over from six yards.

Greencastle hit back and Ronan Doherty had an effort well saved by Philip Doherty.

Midway through the half the home side broke the deadlock when Michael Barr hammered a low free kick past the wall and into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Greencastle continued to press with Barr firing just over before James Curran had a long range effort well saved.

Both McCormick and Henry were off target with efforts as the half came to a close.

Greencastle started the second half as they finished the first with both Cavanagh and Henry firing wide.

Dunree hit back on the hour and following a Barry Nixon free Ryan Bradley fired over.

The visitors got back on terms then on 67 minutes when O’Flaherty raced onto a long clearance and fired to the top corner past JP O Doherty.

Five minutes later they took the lead after McGuinness robbed a defender and fired a first time half volley over O’Doherty.

The home side responded and when Henry set up Barr six yards out his effort was brilliantly saved by Doherty.

Dunree sealed their passage to the semi finals when Darryl Moran fed Liam Baldrick and he crossed for O’Flaherty to slot home from close range.
