Ciaran Gallagher hands Finn Harps boost with new contract for 2018

Finn Harps have been handed a massive boost with confirmation that Ciaran Gallagher has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract at the club.

There had been fears that the Raphoe native would leave the club, but the 25-year-old – who has over 200 appearances to his name – has agreed to stay on for the 2018 campaign.

“To have a player of Ciaran’s calibre re-signing just demonstrates the desire he has to continue to play his part with Finn Harps even though we are going to be in the First Division this season,” Harps manager Ollie Horgan said.

“He has been a key player for me over the past three seasons and will be hugely influential with his experience for us for the season ahead.

Gallagher made his debut for Harps when he came on as a second-half substitute for the injured Gavin Cullen in the 1-0 defeat against Sporting Fingal at the Morton Stadium in April 2009, just two days after his 17th birthday.

Gallagher was with Derry City in 2014, but returned to aid Harps’ successful promotion push in 2015, when he kept 17 clean sheets.

Only Gerry Murray, who won the FAI Cup with Harps in 1974, has made more appearances as goalkeeper for the club.
