PREVIEWS BY DIARMUID O’BRIEN

JACKIE CROSSAN PREMIER DIVISION

 Glengad United v Moville Celtic

AFTER their 2-2 League Cup draw these two meet in the opening League encounter where holders Glengad (pictured above celebrating their title win last season) with ex Moville player Nigel McMonagle in their ranks, will be hoping to get off to a winning start.

They also welcome Michael Byrne back from injury and he will be like a new signing.

Moville surprised many with their performance in the League Cup especially as they were missing Shane Canning from their engine room.

At home Glengad are usually very difficult to oppose and they will fancy their chances of a winning start.

Clonmany Shamrocks v Aileach FC

THIS is the match of the day without doubt with second and third from last year facing off at Shamrock Park.

Sean Tolley has joined Paul McLaughlin as joint manager in the Clonmany dugout and, while they have lost the services of Darren Coyle, they welcome back Jason Devlin and Jason Doherty from Australia.

Aileach will look to build on last seasons superb effort where they pushed Glengad all the way.

Michael Barr and Paddy Slevin will be hoping they make a better start than last season and key men will be Anthony and Gavin Doherty, while Ronan Coyle – who has won Ulster Senior Leagues with Finn Harps, QPS and Kildrum Tigers – has been added.

Illies Celtic v Culdaff FC

GAMES between the two are usually full of goals and entertainment with little between them.

John Doherty is back in charge of Illies and he will look to new signing Johnathan Noone, William McLaughlin and Paddy Doherty to inspire.

Culdaff have lost some players again but started the League Cup positively and will look to the likes of Patrick McGrenaghan, Darren Mullarkey and Darragh McLaughlin. It can go either way.

QPS v Buncrana Hearts

UNDER Brian Bell the point will look to get off to a winning start and he will look to the likes of Dean Barron, Stephen McCarron and Cathal McColgan.

They face a very young Buncrana side who have seen star man Kieran McDaid move on to Finn Harps, but with John McLaughlin, Liam McCarron, Diarmuid Fullerton and Stephen McHugh still in their ranks they will not lack experience.

Games between the two are usually close hard fought affairs and this should be no different. It is another clash which could go either way.

STRAND HOTEL FIRST DIVISION

Carrowmena FC v Dunree United

BOTH clubs will have similar personnel on show as they had last season and Raymond Dougal will hope his Carrowmena side continue to improve.

Key men for the home side will be James Gillen, goalkeeper Mark Doherty and Jude Harkin.

Dunree, under James Hegarty and Francis O’Donnell, will look to Liam Baldrick, Philip McGuinness and Jerry Farrell in an attacking sense and they will expect to take something from this tie.

Carn FC v Cockhill Celtic Youths

Carn are rebuilding from the bottom again after their shock relegation and the return of Niall McGuinness as manager will be a hugely positive appointment.

They have made a superb signing in goalkeeper Daniel Houghton and if they can keep Eanna Newton, Shane Doherty and Darragh Deery playing regularily they might surprise.

Cockhill are under new manager Shaun McLaughlin, who has vast experience both as a player and a manager.

He will look to Michael O’Connor, Michael Gallagher and Darragh McDermott to mount a challenge.

Rasheney FC v Redcastle United

Rasheney suffered a big defeat away to Greencastle and have lost John McLaughlin to Culdaff this year as well as having Charlie Doherty out with knee and groin injuries.

They will look to consolidate after their relegation last season.

Redcastle will also look to consolidate under new manager David Cunningham as they have remained in the division due to other factors.

They will hope Brendan Murphy and Harry McCormick can form a potent strike force. Redcastle could get something from this game.
