Last Sunday, Otway Golf Club marked 125 years with a gathering of currents and past members, past captains and lady captains and presidents, and guests for a friendly get together and catch up over some light refreshments.

Many stories were circulating about days and years gone by at Otway by some of the more senior members in attendance, and the cordial atmosphere at Otway revived on a relaxed Sunday afternoon.

There was a presentation of prizes for the competitive action which took place earlier in the day, with the team of Damian Gallagher, Peter Friel, Denis Friel and Kathleen Deeney taking first prize in the scramble.

Second place was taken by the team of Gerry Gallagher, William Roarty, John Doran and Maureen Shanaghan, with the nines going to the teams of Fr Martin Collum, Hugh Gallagher, Mae Blaney and club captain Paddy Lynch, and the back nine to Paul Gallagher,Paul Murray, Noel Fisher and Mar Hasson.

A fantastic day was had by all, demonstrating that golf at Otway is truly alive and well and looking forward to hopefully another 125 years on the wee links on Lough Swilly’s shores.

With no mens club competitions on this weekend, Martin Duffy has asked that players in the club matchplay take the opportunity get their first round matches played.
